A caganer is a figure present in Catalan nativity scenes. Traditionally, the figure is a Catalan peasant in a red hat (barretina). In recent years, however, world leaders are generally depicted defecating in the manger.

Via Wikipedia, here are my favorite theories behind the practice:

The idea that God will manifest her/himself when s/he is ready, without regard for whether we human beings are ready or not.

The caganer reinforces that the infant Jesus is God in human form, with all that being human implies.

I posted the picture above as a Christmas treat to my Republican buddies (and even you, Muppet Pants) and my fellow Democrats with senses of humor. There are very few of us.

馬英九在當選總統之後，雖然最近變得非常慎言寡言，但是勤做筆記的習慣可沒有改變！26日上午在面對基層教師的座談時，馬英九埋頭猛做筆記，被教授黃光國消遣，不過馬英九立刻正色反駁，做筆記是他長久以來的習慣，他會堅持下去。

出席教師座談會，聆聽基層教師的各種意見，馬英九不只聽、還猛記，記下每個老師的每個意見。看在眼裡，台大心理系教授黃光國說：「馬總統很努力在做筆記，我覺得很糟糕很糟糕，如果你這樣做筆記，把剛才大家所講的，每個都要實踐的話，你會變成第二個李遠哲。」

第二個李遠哲是什麼意思？黃光國沒有明說，一般猜測，是希望馬英九大廚不庖，不要管枝節小事。不過做筆記的習慣，馬英九早在國外念書時就已經養成，多年來相隨相伴、難以拋棄。

馬英九說：「照我正常的習慣，一定記筆記，因為聽完，馬上就會有人會問，你是不是真的在聽？所以說有人建議我不要做筆記，這個意見我不採納。」

不接受不做筆記的建議，馬英九堅持始終如一，儘管未來當上總統，他依舊會維持一藍一紅一鉛筆的標準文書配備。
